The Michigan Health Endowment Fund awarded a two-year grant to UMRC Foundation to implement the Positive Approach™ to Care, developed by dementia expert, Teepa Snow. Teepa and her team have provided a series of trainings this spring for both UMRC staff and community care partners in techniques to best care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia as their brain functions change. On May 15 and 16, during Dementia Awareness week, UMRC hosted Teepa Snow for two trainings: Dementia 360: Seeing It from All Directions and Learning the Difference Between Confrontational and Supportive Communication. Both days’ sessions were open to the public and were well received by a full house of both UMRC staff and community caregivers.

If you missed Teepa Snow’s presentation, we have good news! Teepa Snow and her team will return in 2018: May 15-18, August 6-7, and November 5-6. In the meantime, we are also pleased to provide these Positive Approach™ to Care video links available free of charge from Teepa Snow.
