Education

We are fortunate to have one of the leading Alzheimer’s disease research centers in the country in our own backyard, and proud to be a community partner with the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC). Part of the University of Michigan, MADRC’s mission is to conduct scientific research on Alzheimer’s disease, provide care for those affected by it, and offer education and current information on this disease.

Henry L. Paulson, M.D., Ph.D. came to Chelsea on Thursday, September 14, 2009 to talk about the latest developments in Alzheimer’s research. The UMRC Heritage Foundation was pleased to offer guests the opportunity to enjoy lunch, meet Dr. Paulson, and hear him speak on “Advances in Alzheimer’s Research.”

Dr. Paulson is the Lucile Groff Professor of Neurology for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan. He has received numerous awards and recognition from organizations, both nationally and internationally, who look for the most promising research in this area.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Paulson directed the group which was the first to describe abnormal protein clumping in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients – now recognized as a fundamental component of this disease. For more information on Dr. Paulson’s background, please visit http://www.med.umich.edu/neurology/faculty/paulson_research_bio.htm

In addition to being a noted scientist and physician, Dr. Paulson has a gift for translating complicated research into easily understood concepts. UMRC supporters who attended the luncheon gave him rave reviews.  By clicking on the links below, you can watch Dr. Paulson speak about Alzheimer’s research, and view his slide presentation.
