Towsley Village
Alzheimer's & Memory
Care Center
A Caring Community - Within a Community
If you care for a spouse, parent or loved one with Alzheimer’s
disease, dementia or memory loss, you know how challenging it
can be to face each day with patience, flexibility and compassion.
In time your loved one may require assistance that simply cannot
be provided in a home setting. Towsley Village was created to
fulfill that need—providing the best care available in
a venue unlike any other.
More than 20 years ago, Chelsea Retirement Community established
the nation’s first dedicated residential facility devoted
to all phases of Alzheimer’s, dementia and memory loss—Wesley
Hall. In 2000, UMRC continued its leadership and innovation
in the field of memory loss with Towsley Village, offering state-of-the-art
treatment for individuals at all stages of Alzheimer’s,
dementia and memory loss, in a warm and caring residential environment.
Located in a quiet area of the main Chelsea campus and surrounded
by trees, fields and wetlands, Towsley Village is a 72,000 square
foot building designed to replicate the look and feel of a small
town. Four separate neighborhoods of approximately 24 residents
each are connected by a bustling Town Center complete with a
1940s-style diner, a 35-seat movie theater, a chapel, library,
physician’s office, and beauty/barber shop. To reinforce
the sense of community, meals are prepared and served in neighborhood
kitchens. Enclosed courtyards provide a safe, secure environment
where residents can enjoy the outdoors and participate in barbecues
and other open-air festivities.
“There Are Angels Working
Here”
That comment from a grateful family member is typical of the
praise we receive on a daily basis from residents and their
loved ones. Our staff members are dedicated, attentive, highly
trained caregivers who inspire confidence and trust. Because
clinical services are so crucial to quality of life for memory
loss patients, we provide full-spectrum care through a team
of professionals comprised of:
- Registered nurses
- Nurse managers
- Resident care assistants
- Rehabilitation specialists – occupational and physical
therapists and speech pathologists
Food, Fun and Fellowship
We believe that every stage of life has value and can offer
its own satisfactions and comforts. To help our residents enjoy
each day to the fullest, we offer a lively, balanced schedule
of programs, classes and events. Carefully supervised day trips
and overnight getaways provide excitement and fun. Ice creams
socials, holiday parties, barbecues, and other events bring
residents together for good food and good fellowship.
With all of its “downtown” amenities, our Town Center
offers pleasant diversions for residents, friends and family
members. But perhaps most important of all—and most conducive
to quality of life—is the warm, caring atmosphere of Towsley
Village, generated by staff members and residents who strive
to live out their values every day.
Multidisciplinary Medical Care…
Provided On-Site
Towsley Village is a place where physicians regularly make house
calls. In addition to visits by personal physicians, residents
have on-site access to dentists, podiatrists, psychologists,
and a variety of other health care professionals. Also, our
own physical, speech, and occupational therapists are available
to provide restorative and maintenance therapy as needed.
Large private rooms—and several spacious companion rooms—give
residents ample opportunity to fill their personal living space
with favorite pieces of furniture and other belongings. Large
windows offer a sweeping view of trees, ponds, fields, and gardens
as well as local wildlife.
At Towsley Village, residents can pursue their interests—and
discover new ones—through a wide range of group programs.
